Arbor Hills Adopt A Park Spring Workday
Saturday, May 15th, 2010 at 2 p.m.
Meet at Kilburn Park
Please bring gardening tools for tending and installing flower beds, and work gloves.
Spring is in the air, and in order to better ready the parks
for enjoyment, please join us in tending the neighborhood parks.
Arbor HIlls will once again be participating in the city wide Adopt A Park Spring Kickoff this year. Please note that our event is
planned for slightly later in the day than many of the other parks.
Aside from regular spring maintenance of the Kilburn Park flower
beds, we will be installing a couple of tree rings around trees planted last fall.
We will finally be installing a long planned flower bed in Arbor Hills Park and the picnic table in the park will be
relocated to a more accessible area. We will also be looking for feedback from those involved as to future improvements for
Arbor Hills Park.
If you can't attend and you are interested in future workdays, please contact the Board on the web site Contact Form. We may
have work left over from the workday to split out among interested individuals to do on their own time. We are also looking
for a volunteer to refill water bags on the small trees this summer on a weekly basis.

Rezoning Hearing for Kilburn Park, Arbor Hills Park, and Arbor Hills Nature Area
March 16, 2009 at 7 p.m.
Council Chambers, 2nd Floor, City Hall, 100 N. 5th Avenue
A notice for a public hearing has been sent out to those Arbor Hills homes within 300 feet of
Kilburn Park, Arbor Hills Park, and Arbor Hills Nature Area for the rezoning of the land
from PUD to PL. What is not clear from the notices is that the parcel marked Arbor Hills
Nature Area acutally covers both Arbor Hills Park and Arbor Hills Nature Area.
The Board is inquiring as to whether the status of Arbor Hills Park is being dissolved
or if this was some sort of error.
Alone, these rezoning changes might seem inconsequential, or "simply bookkeeping" as has
been passed on as the City's official take. However, in conjunction with the changes to
City Code that were passed last year, allowing the City to sell public lands without voter
approval if they are not being used as parks, and that the mowing for Arbor Hills has been
recently approved by the City Council as a financial cutback, this could potentially leave
the park at greater risk in the future.
On the other hand, Kilburn Park, being centrally located with a playground and a highly visible element of
Arbor HIlls is at very little risk.
Prior to the City Council's budget meeting this past Monday evening, March 8, the Board sent a message to
the Council asking them to consider other means achieving financial cutbacks and specifically asked them
to challenge the Parks deparment to lower their mowing costs from $4,000 per acre, extremely high by comparison
to the commercial rates the Association has seen.
If you have interest in the rezoning of these parcels, we encourage you attend the City Council meeting.
